Job Description: VOICE Charter School ( ) is an elementary and middle school located in Long Island City, Queens that serves about 650 students across grades K-8. We are located just minutes from Manhattan (two stops outside of Manhattan on the F, N, and W train lines) and Long Island City’s growing waterfront district, thriving arts community, and rapid residential growth. Schedule: Monday through Thursdays, 3:45pm-4:45pmMajor Responsibilities:Program Planning * Support students (tutees) to become more independent learners, and reach their goals.

  • Meet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class, explain processes and help students solve specific problems.
  • Help students develop study skills and organization techniques to help improve their academic performance.
  • Support in identifying equipment and materials needed, submit PRFs to EOPS
  • Support EOPS with the distribution, tracking and follow-up of student permission forms to ensure students are eligible to participate in the program

Program Implementation * Support in leading ASP tutoring sessions.

  • Troubleshoot problems and work closely with EOPS to flag any issues or concerns throughout the school year.

Weekly Program Responsibilities * Supervise students

  • Consult with Upper Elementary School Director re: student behavior management issues, concerns
  • Support in procuring and setting up any needed materials or equipment for tutoring.
  • Collaborate with Upper Elementary School Staff in leading Tutoring sessions 2x weekly.
  • Take student attendance for all events
  • Ensure student participants are out to their parent/guardian and stay until last child is picked up

Team Support * Provide general team support to and collaborate effectively with program staff and EOPSStaff-Wide Professional Expectations * Embrace and be an ambassador of VOICE’s mission, vision and values

  • Collaborate communicate and maintain effective and professional relationships as member of an interdisciplinary team of educators, support staff, administrators
  • Participate in required meetings and events, which may include student events, school concerts, parent-teacher conferences, on- and off-site conferences and trainings, others.
  • Meet expectations related to punctuality and professionalism including but not limited to reporting to work on time, following the appropriate call-out and lateness procedures, timely responding to emails, consistently meeting deadlines and communicating appropriately on progress on projects and goals.
  • Proactively and appropriately seek assistance and/or guidance when faced with challenges appropriately provide and receive feedback to/from students, parents, faculty, classroom assistants, support staff, and administration
  • Reflect on professional practice through self-reflection and engagement in informal and formal feedback processes

Position Qualifications:Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Current VOICE Teacher-in good standing

Preferred:

  • NYSED-certified as classroom teacher
  • Has previous experience working with students
  • Has previous experience teaching to Upper Elementary School students.
