Our mission is to leverage the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet.The Partnerships (CBFPF) unit within the Economics & Private Sector Development Vice-Presidency supports IFC operations through fundraising for priority areas and maintaining ongoing relationships with development partners, including bilateral and multilateral sovereign partners, and an increasing range of private philanthropic partners. In addition to directly engaging with partners to support IFC activities, CBFPF facilitates partnership development across IFC and advises all IFC operational units on establishing and maintaining meaningful partnerships for funding and broader support for IFC initiatives.The Private Philanthropies Team is responsible for developing and managing IFC’s relationships with non-sovereign philanthropic partners, including foundations, family offices, collaboratives, and other emerging new structures in the philanthropic sector. The team leads strategy development, marketing and new partnership development, manages a portfolio of existing partners; and facilitates strategic access to new partners in support of IFCs operations.Objectives
- Portfolio Management: Oversee a select portfolio of IFC’s relationships with philanthropic partners globally, ensuring high client service with both internal and external counterparts.
- New Business Development: Engage strategically with philanthropic partners worldwide bi-laterally, and through convenings; build a network and linkages to the philanthropic community relevant to international development.
- Coordination Across Teams: Collaborate with IFC operational teams to develop and implement new fundraising initiatives and partnerships.
Specific Deliverables
- Develop and Deliver Partner Strategies and Engagement Plans: Develop and implement partner specific strategies and engagement plans, and support partner engagement throughout IFC through delivering management briefs, analyses, and presentations. Facilitate relevant partner meetings with key IFC counterparts.
- Strategic Mapping and Assessment: Conduct strategic mapping and critical assessment of potential philanthropic partners for IFC in North America and globally, in close collaboration with regional teams.
- Platform Development: Prepare the groundwork for new funding platforms aligned with relevant global initiatives and approaches for working with non-sovereign partners, supporting IFC’s advisory, upstream, and investment operations, as well as key themes such as Climate and Gender.
- Fundraising and Partnership Support: Draft and contribute to IFC fundraising governance, concept notes, proposals, agreement negotiations, funding allocations, reports, and meetings/events for relevant partners globally.
- Convening: Develop bespoke partner convenings focused on key sectors, geographies, aimed at promoting understanding and visibility of IFC operations with new and existing partners, deepening IFC’s existing funding relationships with key philanthropies and foundations, while creating new opportunities for strategic collaboration.
Selection Criteria
- Master’s Degree: In business, international development or other relevant field.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 8-12 years of relevant professional experience.
- Sector Knowledge: Familiarity with sectors and themes relevant to IFC, with a preference for emerging markets experience.
- Philanthropic Sector Expertise: In-depth knowledge of the philanthropic sector, including priorities and structures, with demonstrated success in engaging and influencing key partners, particularly in fundraising.
- Research and Analytical Skills: Strong research, data collection, and analytical skills, with the ability to think strategically and synthesize complex issues.
- Communication and Negotiation Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to structure and create impactful presentations that synthesize complex issues attractively.
- Efficiency and Productivity: Ability to work on parallel delivers, to tight timelines, and with high quality outputs,
- Diplomatic and Interpersonal Skills: Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills, high political acumen, and problem-solving abilities; capable of representing IFC in high-profile networks.
- Team Orientation: Strong team orientation, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients and colleagues, including operational staff, senior management, and senior officials of IFC member countries.
- Multicultural Enthusiasm: Enthusiasm for working in multicultural teams and across borders.
- Professional Integrity: Highest degree of professional integrity, discretion, tact, and sensitivity in dealing with internal and external clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
