Our employees are committed to providing the best CARE by demonstrating compassion, accountability, respect, and expertise in everything we do.Position SummaryThe Director of Service Line assumes responsibility for multi-disciplinary activities of the assigned Specialty, including the management of patient care, the overall nursing and operational component as well as the quality assurance and accrediting body compliance of the service line. The incumbent pursues the development of the service line in terms of quality of care, volume, scope of services, quality measures and cost effectiveness. Exercises shared responsibility for maintaining an appropriate balance of cooperation, communication, and integration among the organization’s directors, outpatient practices and matrix managers in order to ensure an efficient and progressive environment that carries out a program of quality patient care management. Promotes the growth of the service line through advising on the recruitment of key personnel and the development of staff through teaching opportunities, professional mentorship, research and other staff development activities. Works closely with and acts as a liaison with the hospital medical staff, administration, department heads, ancillary services, outpatient practices and nursing personnel with regards to all aspects of the assigned services. Works with patient community to develop and host educational programs, seminars and outreach events for service line.Duties & Responsibilities
- Assumes responsibility for active involvement in policy formulation, quality initiatives, operations and the overall strategic direction of the assigned service line for JHS.
- Takes initiative in ensuring that the service line has broadly-based strategic planning by designing, developing, directing, coordinating, supporting and/or communicating the successful execution of the multi-year business plan and objectives across multiple pillars including growth, quality, and operations.
- Carries out the strategic and long-range planning for the service line by performing gap analysis and coordinating assessment measures.
- Ensures that the services offered are of the highest quality and meets community needs, as well as supports the organization’s needs. Recommends improvements of facilities, including renovations, purchase of new equipment, and expanding or adding new services.
- Establishes collaborative relationships with various stakeholders to achieve goals, and engages physicians across the division, committee participation, strategic business planning communication, and education.
- Focuses on service line growth, patient care delivery systems, operational efficiency, and improving patient, employee and physician satisfaction.
- Monitors all aspects of quality assurance and improvement, works closely with administration and physicians to assess and improve the service line’s performance, and incorporates continuous performance improvement into operations.
- Monitors financial performance against budget, ensures appropriate staffing to meet productivity goals and actively participates in budget preparation.
- Assures that patients receive quality care through staff education and monitoring of patient outcomes.
- Recruits, trains, and motivates key personnel who will contribute significantly to the desired service orientation of the assigned service line.
- The leader understands and adheres to JHS compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct, Compliance Policies, and all other JHS Policies and Procedures and supports the commitment of JHS in adhering to federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing ethical business practices for health care providers by demonstrating knowledge of procedures for protecting and maintaining security, confidentiality and integrity of employee, patient, family and organization information.
- The leader further understands that JHS is committed to its role in preventing health care fraud and abuse and complying with applicable state and federal laws related to health care fraud and abuse. This commitment is supported and enabled through an anonymous hotline which serves as one of several mechanisms for reporting suspected fraud, waste and/or abuse, as well as other compliance related issues.
- The leader to report through any of the reporting mechanisms (e.g., anonymous hotline, supervisor, Compliance Officer) any suspected health care fraud, waste and/or abuse as well as other compliance-related issues.
- Incumbent may have one or multiple offices, must be travel to multiple hospitals to achieve assigned tasks, and will host night events/seminars. Role models behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in related field is required. Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
Experience
- Generally requires 7 to 10 years of service line quality/accrediting compliance or related experience.
- Management experience is required.
License/Certification
- Valid Florida RN license is required.
- Advanced Nursing Administration certification is preferred.
- Leaders performing direct patient care are required to have a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment
