Title of the Job: Design Technology Operator

Location: Seattle, WA

Job Description: Description :Hourly range is $24.04 to $52.88 with a midpoint of $36.06. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.Sound Transit also offers a competitive with a wide range of offerings, including:

GENERAL PURPOSE:Under general direction, performs professional non-managerial Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Survey related duties including those related to revision of .dwg and .rvt record files. Drafting support for Engineering service requests and Service Delivery projects. Assist in the maintenance of Design Technology production resources such as templates, blocks, and families. Assist in maintenance and updates to Sound Transit Autodesk Construction Cloud environment and GIS As-built site.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Interprets red-lined engineering mark ups and updates electronic source files.
  • Assists in maintaining a reliable system environment for all CAD/BIM programs used by the agency including custom profiles, file management systems, user interfaces, resource definitions, and productivity tools in support of multiple consultants and contractors through all phases of small and multi-million-dollar project lifecycles and Facility Management efforts.
  • Assists in quality audits of design data.
  • Assist in the creation of parametric 3D model geometry and imports supplier/vendor/manufacturer device and feature models into existing models/geometry.
  • Assists agency and project staff in the use of survey data and project datums, ensuring their proper collection, documentation, conversion, and use between other datums and state plane coordinates.
  • Supports efforts to produce, maintain, and distribute as-built data; works directly with Sound Transit’s Construction Management and Document Control groups on requirements and providing guidance to the project consultants. Under direction of Senior Design Technology staff, ensures that quality, accuracy, and completeness of the contractor’s provided as-built markups are maintained and delivered to the agency.
  • Develops and maintains drawings, models, and visualizations as needed.
  • Coordinates assigned activities and functions as directed by senior staff with other agency staff, local, state, and federal agencies/jurisdictions, and business partners; interacts, shares knowledge, negotiates issues, and develops collaborative relationships as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Graphics, Architecture, Industrial Design, CAD Drafting, 3D Modeling, Surveying or closely related field. Three years experience in drafting or modeling on multi-discipline projects, in a technical support, survey support, or project lead role that includes architectural, civil, mechanical, and structural disciplines; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of methods and techniques of using, configuring, maintaining, coordinating, and troubleshooting related CAD/CAE/BIM technology, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, REVIT and Navisworks.
  • Basic knowledge of file management systems and practices with ability to assist in maintaining the system and providing technical solutions as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of 3D modeling techniques including creation of families, visualizations, collaborative organizational structures, and clash detection analysis.
  • Basic knowledge of survey practices and technology related to the collection, recording, review, exchange, and incorporation of survey field notes, records of survey, as-built surveys, drawings, models, DATUMs, legal descriptions, and deeds; production and maintenance of drawings, maps, and models using CAD/GIS software.
  • Principles and practices of reading, interpreting, and modifying design and construction drawings, 3D parametric models, public land survey systems, topographic mapping, datum conversions, and field/record survey data.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with other departments, agencies, municipalities, vendors, and the public.
  • Techniques to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases.
  • Reading and interpreting related standards and requirements, survey data, 3D parametric models, and design/construction/as-built drawings and models relative to the development and maintenance of plans, models, project requirements, and cost estimating.
  • Prioritizing individual assignments and schedule. Coordinating assignments and project delivery within a team in support of complex projects.
  • Coordinating, or working independently on multiple small projects concurrently.
  • Independently arrange and organize work efforts and prioritize workload and shift work activities to meet competing goals.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, community groups, and the public.
  • Interpreting and administering policies and procedures sufficient to administer, discuss, resolve, and explain them to staff and other constituencies.
  • Interpreting and applying applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Attention to detail while maintaining a positive customer orientation toward internal and external customers.
  • Responding to inquiries with effective oral and written communication.
  • Working cooperatively with other departments, Agency officials, and outside agencies.

Preferred Knowledge and Skill:

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations as they apply to transit operations.
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance techniques and practices related to CAD/BIM software and hardware, including but not limited to plotters, scanners, workstations, and file management systems.
  • Independently producing 3D models and visualizations, contract drawings, exhibits, and related documentation using current CAD/BIM software.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a hybrid office environment.
  • Position is responsible for using a variety of computer programs that require use of vison and eye/hand coordination.
