The community college system’s more than 3,500 faculty and staff serve more than 60,000 students annually at seven colleges and five satellite sites.PRIMARY OBJECTIVEReporting to an assigned Dean of Instruction, the Part-time Adjunct Faculty position conducts formal classes and meets all lab objectives, when applicable, for assigned courses. Part-time Adjunct Faculty teach and evaluate students, prepare and revise course syllabi and other educational materials. Part-time Adjunct Faculty will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving. Lastly, Part-time Adjunct Faculty contribute to the overall operation of the College, support the mission of the institute, and employ the philosophical commitment of the community college environment.City Colleges is committed to building a culture of excellence that inspires everyone to become the best in class for students and the community. Additionally, each pillar serves as a guide for supporting faculty through their life cycle at CCC.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:· Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies.· Designs courses that have clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student centered and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.· Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes.· Develops and designs an assessment program that includes regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.· Commits to engaging and improving upon behavioral commitments that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging amongst students.· Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in one’s specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology and continuously reflect on and refine their craft.· Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.· Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.· Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.· Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.· Instructs in-person classes or online synchronous classes using Zoom.· Demonstrates flexibility in learning and using course-related texts and/or materials, Brightspace learning management system, Faculty Center in my.ccc.edu, and Navigate.· Holds office hours before or after class to help students reach their academic, personal and career goals.· Responds promptly to college and department communications and communicate with mentor and assistant chair about challenges as they arise.· Participates in department-wide meetings and assessment outside of class time.QUALIFICATIONS:· M. A. in Communications or Speech or Theatre Arts.· Teaching experience at the college level preferred.· Excellent verbal and written skills required with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.· The ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.· Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.· Has a disposition towards developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars.· Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred.· Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred.· Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.How to Apply:· All interested candidates, including current CCC employees, must submit the following documents for review:· A letter of interest· Resume or curriculum vitae· A statement of your teaching philosophy· A legible copy of your college transcripts (Unofficial transcripts initially accepted, official transcripts must be provided at time of interview.)· Two letters of recommendationThe City Colleges of Chicago is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
